BALE INSPIRES WIN
Wales managed to win their recent friendly match against Iceland 3-1 and it was largely due to the exploits of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale. The £ 85 million man scored two goals and set up the other in an impressive performance, which earned the praise of captain Ashley Williams.
Bale has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years, but he has truly become a superstar after his world-record move to the Spanish club. After struggled to start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu, he has been looking impress in recent weeks.
After his excellent performance against Iceland, Williams said that he does not see the reason why Bale should be able to lead Wales to the Euro 2016. The qualifying campaign for this competition starts in September. Wales have been given a tough group containing the likes of France and Belgium, but the nation is confident of qualification simply because the number of participants have been increased to 24 from 16. As a result, three teams will be able to qualify from group. Even then, Williams reckons that Bale’s performances alone will be able to see them through.
Wales have not made it to a major tournament in a long time, but Williams is hoping that the wait ends this time around.
"The ability to be super-human! He just makes the game look easy. We knew he was a good player anyway but he had a great night. It was unbelievable. I have never seen anything like it. He is a great player. He can win games on his own. We will do our best to play our part and it isn't a one-man team, but we have got one of the best players in the world. Let's not hide from that fact. He is going to be massive for us and hopefully he can stay injury-free,” said Williams.
